Poll shows trouble for Lincoln, wide approval for Beebe

The newest Talk Business Quarterly poll combined with Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown’s upset victory over Democrat Martha Coakley on Tuesday (Jan. 19) does not bode well for U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.

Brown’s win, according to analysis from Roby Brock, alters the national political landscape in the health care debate and could have profound repercussions for the Democratic majority in Congress, including Arkansas’ closely-watched U.S. Senate race. (Brock is a content partner with The City Wire.)

“Brown’s win handed the GOP a 41st seat in the U.S. Senate, a milestone that whittles away a filibuster-proof majority for Democrats,” Brock advised in this report.

Following are TBQ polling results about Lincoln and Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe.

Do you have a favorable or unfavorable impression of Blanche Lincoln?
15%  Strongly Favorable
19%  Somewhat Favorable (Favorable = 34%)
11%  Somewhat Unfavorable
46%  Strongly Unfavorable (Unfavorable = 57%)
9%    No Opinion

Thinking about the job that Blanche Lincoln is doing as U.S. Senator, would you say you approve or disapprove?
15%  Strongly Approve
23%  Somewhat Approve (Approve = 38%)
7%   Slightly Disapprove
49%  Strongly Disapprove (Disapprove = 56%)
6%   No Opinion

In the last TBQ Poll conducted in October 2009, 42% of likely voters had a favorable impression of Lincoln, while 46% had an unfavorable view.  Lincoln’s job approval rating was split evenly at 45-45% in October.

Lincoln still enjoys majority support among Democrats with 61% popularity. But 76% of Republicans disapprove of her job performance by larger margins. Strikingly, all-important independent voters have a similar attitude as Republicans, with 69% disapproving of Lincoln’s job performance.

No Democratic Incumbent will be Safe in Arkansas!

I predict that almost any Democratic incumbents running for reelection will lose to their respective Republican opponents this November in the state of Arkansas (unless they are totally unopposed). Even popular Democrats there won't be spared of voters' anti-incumbent sentiments, which includes Gov. Mike Beebe, U.S. Reps. Marion Berry and Mike Ross, etc., as well as those who are unpopular, such as U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln and U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder, who wisely opted out of reelection as of late. Like much of the South and given how conservative the electorate has become in Arkansas over the past several years (Remember that the current Democratic President Barack Obama got trounced badly in that state during the 2008 presidential election?), virtually all the Democratic elected officials will lose reelection from A to Z, which means that they could also lose a number of other state constitutional offices (i.e., Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, etc.) as well as control of either or both houses of the state legislature. Unless or until the state of Arkansas’s electoral demographics dramatically changes, the way Virginia and Florida (the most well-developed states in the South, so is North Carolina, but to a lesser extent) are currently experiencing, the Democratic Party will eventually lose its dominance as the Republican Party is becoming stronger there. It does not matter whether these Democrats are in lockstep with President Obama, who is always unsurprisingly unpopular in Arkansas, on any or every issue that America faces as a whole, they are pretty much toast!

You're Fired

I cannot for the life of me think why anyone would vote for someone who absolutely refused to listen to her constituents? Healthcare is Lincoln's undoing and she deserves to be defeated. If I don't listen to my boss I get fired...Same goes for a politician! You cannot ignore the people then come and ask them to hire you again. Mrs. Lincoln You're Fired!
