Bryan Merry Vs. Ray Baker

There is a proposal to rename the downtown Anniversary Rose Garden to the Mayor Ray Baker Rose Garden. Bryan Merry, at a public meeting of the Parks Commission, said:

“Does that mean every mayor we’re going to have to start naming something after?”

I ran that through my Yoda translator, and apparently, Merry opposes naming the park after Mayor Baker, as it will set a precedent. He could be onto something. If we do this in Baker’s memory, we’ll have to do something just as significant for the next mayor who is loved enough to serve a 20-year term.

Anti-Convention Center group has crossed the line

The anti-Convention Center group has stepped way over the line. They have been shouting, name-calling, telling ridiculous lies, and threatening physical violence since the beginning of the Convention Center debate. Last night, one of their primary spokespersons attacked the mayor. Any of us who follow their behavior should have expected the juvenile attack.

Endorsement for Eric Arthur
