I'm battling a case of poison ivy on my hand this week after I got a little reckless planting some flowers. Our yard may be grass, but wander just a few steps to the edges and Mother Nature owns the land. The woods border our property in all directions and we foolishly made flower beds there.

One of the best things about going to the Farmer's Co-op is talking to your neighbors. If you live in a small town like me, it really is your neighbor you see!

My Grandpa took great pride in being a farmer. He was third generation, that seems to be the story of many of America's farmers.

My Dad always liked to plant potatoes on his birthday in February, a little early but he wanted a "head start" on his neighbors! If you are of Irish decent, there's a certain amount of pride in putting the "eyes" in the ground and watching them sprout.

I think about it a lot, the farm that sets in Boone County... just an hour and a half away from me. It was home to my Mom and Dad, her parents, their parents and so on going back to 1860.

I went by the Farmer's Co-Op last week and thumbed through the seed packets. Just in planning mode at this point, but it won't be long until Old Man Winter packs his bags and leaves our part of the country. Spring Time is just around the corner in all her green glory. I can't wait...
