Ray Gosack

I talked to Mr. Gosack about a sanitation worker who harassed my dog and she climbed the fence and nipped his knee.   The sanitation worker called the police and sent out the animal warder to have her picked up.  He (the sanitation worker) showed up on my porch with a pick axe in hand and told me he was going to kill my dog.  He kept making these remarks and then said I had a bad temper.  All I did is pick up the trash he left behind my house and put it in his truck.  Then, the police, animal warden, two superviosrs from the sanitation deapartment and a city truck showed up.  In the end, I had to pay $165.00 for her leaving the yard.  I tried twice to call the head of sanitation, but he rufused to take my calls.  Then I called Mr. Gosack to find out if this is how city employes treat their citizens.  He  became very disturbed and told me I should call the police.  I explained that this was not something I wanted to do but he disagreed with me.  He said this was not his problem and I needed to call the police if I wanted to file a complaint.  It's not about involving the police, it is about how city employes treat people.  Showing up on your porch with a pick axe and threating to kill your dog?  I think not.  The citizens of this city deserve better.

The City

You would think the City would have a place to file a complaint on City employees without calling he police. You should call your City Director to see if there is way to file a complaint.

I would have taken it as a threat

If a person shoed up at my front door in an agitated state with a pick ax in hand using the word kill, I would take that as a threat and act accordingly. Problem Solved.

Don't leave words out

I don't think you should take it as a threat against you. According to the dog owner the worker said, "Kill my dog." That is why people end up getting into trouble when they fail to listen. Would I be upset if a dog bit me, YES? Would I confront the owner, maybe? I would rather have police come and cite the owner and maybe take the dog away. I would hate to see a little kid get hurt!

Dog Attack Could Have Been Worse

Isn't it ironic that the same week a dog climbs a fence in Fort Smith and bites a sanitation worker, we have a much more tragic dog attack in Ozark. A Rottweiler somehow managed to escape a 4-foot tall fence to attack and kill a 4 year old boy. The incident in Fort Smith unfortunately escalated with the sanitation worker later going to the porch of the dog’s owner with a pick axe saying he was going to kill the dog. The owner was fined $165 for allowing the dog to get out of his yard. Hopefully the sanitation worker has cooled somewhat and hopefully the owner of the dog can be thankful he only has to pay a fine. I can't help but think, what if the victim had been some defenseless 4-year old kid chasing a ball down that alley rather than a grown sanitation worker. This attack in Fort Smith would have been much more serious, having a more tragic ending like the one in Ozark.

accountable

I guess the police department is the only department in the city government who take complaints. The police department always fields a complaint and follows up with a full investigation as if a homicide occurred. Police are always held to a higher standard and that is the way it should be. However, it would be nice if other city employees were held accountable! That goes for department heads and other leadership in the government.
