FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas’s undergraduate and graduate classes of 2012 will receive diplomas in seven commencement ceremonies on May 12. Those seeking a law degree will graduate May 19.
Alice Walton, daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton and known for erecting the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art in her hometown of Bentonville, will speak the morning of May 12 at the all-university commencement for graduate students, the UA announced Tuesday (May 1).
The ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Bud Walton Arena. Six ceremonies for undergraduate students will follow in the students’ respective colleges with their own separate commencement speakers.
In addition to delivering the main commencement address, Walton will receive an honorary Doctor of Arts and Humane Letters degree and deliver the commencement address. “She is being honored for a lifetime of ‘transformative’ achievements that have made an unprecedented impact on the people and the state of Arkansas,” according to the UA release.
