OG&E Smart Meters

OG&E is not telling it's customers the truth about their recent roll out of Smart Meters replacing your fully functional current meter! OG&E is advertising their new Smart Meters as the greatest invention since sliced bread!  The Smart Meters, according to OG&E commercials, are to allow you to have full control over your electrical usage by providing you with current usage data.

But did you know that the Smart Meter gives OG&E the ability to charge you different rates for peak and off peak hours?  That isn't to help you the consumer, that is to fill OG&E's pockets with your hard earned money!  If you are disabled, retired, or a house mom who does not have a choice to reduce their usage during the day, you will now be penalized for being at home during the day!

Did you also know the new Smart Meters invade your privacy?  Did you know the new Smart Meters can cause harmful health effects to you and your pets?  Did you know the new Smart Meters cause electrical interference putting your life and that of our law enforcement in jeopardy?

As a result, there will be a town hall meeting in Central City next Monday (6/11/12) starting at 6:00 pm. Mayor Chuck Wallace of Central City encourages everyone to attend. If you value your right to choose, your freedom to decide, your health, and your privacy, you are invited and encouraged to attend! This is a very Important meeting to discuss our rights!! Let me say this, OG&E cannot force us to change, and then turn around and charge us a monthly fee (which is not disclosed prior to meter replacement) and higher rates for the new meters! There may also be a Constitutional Attorney present to answer our questions. The TV media will also be invited.  If we want to stay a free society, we must stand up for our rights! Any questions or comments please call 479-285-1035.

Thanks for the good natured laugh :)

This is satire, right?

OG&E Smart Meters

I don't see the problem. I have Arkansas Valley Electric. I have stock in OG&E and they pay good dividends. The more they make the more I make. If people have a problem with the new meters they should address their concerns to the Arkansas Public Service Commission.

Peak v Non Peak

For my Fort Smith electric rates I pay .085/kwh during the hot months 24/7 and .065/kwh during cooler months 24/7. From a previous post somewhere it was stated that Oklahoma does the peak/no peak rates while Arkansas has not allowed OGE to do so in Arkansas. So what is the issue in Central City regarding rates if the Arkansas authorities won't let OGE vary the rates by hours rather than by seasons?

Do your own research, attend this meeting

There is more to this "smart meter" issue than meets the eye. People are on-fire mad about this (so to speak, no pun intended) after they look into it. From cost increases, to privacy invasion, to negative health effects, to fires they cause (over 800 so far, the things aren't even UL approved!). To the lies that are now being exposed about this entire program... including PG&E's court-ordered info about how much radiation each meter is giving off, and how many thousand times per day it actually emits. It's a corporate agenda, and one not with your interest or basic rights in mind - at all. An invitation to do your own research and check into it folks: http://stopsmartmeters.org http://thepowerfilm.org http://wakeupoptout.org http://emfsafetynetwork.org/?page_id=872 http://youtube.com search 'smart meters'

Smart Meters make some people very ill

Those with heart implants, for example, cannot get within six inches of a SmartMeter without risking dysfunction of their pace makers. Those with other medical implants can suffer greatly, and some become so ill they can no longer live in their homes.

Not new

Those same people who can't get near a smart meter, can't get near their microwave, wireless internet routers, magnets, electronic stud finders, massage chairs, hair clippers, car and motorcycle ignition systems, certain cooktop stoves, cordless telephone, etc. etc etc. The list goes on and on. Not meant to be a PSA for those with pacemakers, but smart meter or not they probably would do well not to get near any electric meters. Smart meters are just something else for the tin foil hat crowd to get uproarious about, but the alleged health implications are no different than the millions of other devices transmitting radio frequencies around us daily.

Just one more itty bitty hazard

Just pile 'em on. I hope it is not my back the "last straw" breaks. Just add in all the bad stuff a little at a time so nobody notices.

I am an expert, and my

I am an expert, and my research shows that smart meters can and will cause hair loss, gingivitis, and excessive flatulence. They are very harmful, and I am an expert who posts this information on the Internets, so heed my warning!

Don't cloud your own issue

Hey JK. I know you understand non-ionizing radiation, and how prevalent it is -and how safe it is. If you've got objections or concerns about the smart grid, variable rates, and so forth, those are issues that can be discussed. By all means I think OG&E has a responsibility to be up front about what they hope to accomplish with this new technology. The smart grid is new enough that people don't realize what it is, what it can do, and why the industry is pushing it onto the public. That said, when you start fear mongering with ridiculous health claims you weaken your position. This PDF file was prepared for the California legislature to help them understand the particulars of this new technology. It addresses the health claims quite thoroughly. http://www.ccst.us/publications/2011/2011smartA.pdf While I'm all for people learning about this, since it will affect the entire nation before long, there's no reason to muddy the waters with hysterical and unfounded claims. The issue is complicated enough without all that folderol.

OG&E's DEATH METER!

Hey Shane, First off there is a BIIIIIIIIIIG Difference when you are having forced 24/7/365 FULL BODY Exposure And simply holding a cell phone to your ear, if and when YOU choose. You Can't drown in your Bath Tub if all you have are your Toes in a full tub of water! Exposing your Full Body into a full tub of water increases your chance of drowning immensely.

non-ionizing radiation

@Shane, apparently you haven't read the Bioinitiative Report, written in 2007 by biologists on whether non-ionizing radiation has effects on living tissue. The answer is yes, it does. And there are more and more studies showing this all the time. The "hysterical and unfounded" claims you speak of are the claims that these things are safe, and so are the other products that we willingly buy and surround ourselves with. That's an unfounded claim, because with every legitimately independent study, links are found between pre-cancerous DNA breaks and non-ionizing radiation. The actual hard scientific truth of the matter is more revealed with every independent study, and I do mean independent. The claims of the Telecom industry that "thousands of studies prove cell phones are safe" is a complete, total, unabashed lie. Didn't stop them from saying it nor did that stop the News from printing it, but you can print or say lies all you want, and it doesn't make them true. That's why Physicians For Social Responsibility and other groups have urged California's public utilities commission to HALT installation of these meters. The science has been coming in for decades now. And energy experts have said that thing the State of California did is complete hooey. I forget the one guy's name, at UC Santa Cruz. But that thing you linked to has been discredited, and a little search will inform anyone curious as to why.

PSR

Since you brought it up, I checked psr.org. There are no references to Smart Meters on their site (which includes all of their press materials). The only references to non-ionizing radation on their site were two articles pushing a book one of the PSR members wrote back in 2010. Can you provide any information as to when they addressed the issue?

smart meters

The medical community, concerned citizens, and even private security companies have researched the problems and effects of the installation of smart meters. What they have found is shocking. In an emergency document dated April 12th, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine calls for “immediate caution regarding smart meter installations.” They recognize that “significant harmful biological effects occur from non thermal Radio Frequency (RF) exposure.” They also express concern regarding significant, but poorly understood quantum field effects of Electromagnetic field (EMF) and RF on human health. RF exposure causes neurological damage. It is a fact that has been well documented. The neurological and cognitive disorders, nervous system dysfunction, decreased reaction times; sleep disturbances and disruptive behavior in children are only a few of the problems reported while in proximity of smart meters. Through federal funding and without consumer approval, OG&E received these smart meters from the manufacturer, GE. Both companies are making huge profits while unemployment skyrockets. OG&E will save millions in payroll as “meter readers” lose their jobs. Jeff Immelt, the CEO of GE, sits on Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. With the implementation of this program it seems the federal government, OG&E and GE are working to eliminate jobs, cause severe health problems and use Arkansans as test subjects. I wonder what kind of recovery they have in mind? The OG&E website states that “we actively search for ways to add to the quality of your day-to-day life…” Are these harmful effects added quality? The health and economic issues are only part of the problem. Hackers are now able to highjack these wireless surveillance devices, disable our nation’s power grid or spy on us from a distance. Smart meters threaten our privacy and security. Smart meters have been executed with little if any public knowledge, media attention or oversight. Smart meters seem to be part of Agenda 21, the UN mandate that seeks to destroy our sovereignty, under the pretense of sustainable development. OG&E has refused customers the right to opt out of the forced smart meter program. Smart meters are a dumb idea. This is urgent; an “opt out” is a smart idea.

smart meters

Not a thing smart about them, unless you mean they are smart enough to ruin the health of those who live in a house with one, Myself I have lost more hair consistently since the POCrap was put into my house unawares than I have ever lost sitting in a barbers chair.

Smart Meters

Many states have enacted opt outs for smart meters, some area's in California and the northeast corridor, surely these regulators are not wearing tin foil hats, and have valid reasons for making these opt out's available.
