Sam H. McCoubrey, 91 of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, July 17 2012. He was born in Henryetta, OK on August 11, 1920 on his father’s birthday. He was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church and served on The Board of Trustee’s, General Board, and Memorial Committee and was a long time usher of the early morning worship service. He retired from Harding Glass Company after 38 years. He served in the Army with the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion Company A during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and 5 Bronze Stars for Campaigns in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, Southern France, and Rome-Arno. He loved fishing, camping, and carpentry. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Sam H. and Maggie McCoubrey and three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, July 20th at Goddard United Methodist Church with Military Honors and burial to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aline, a son Scott McCoubrey and his wife Jean of Ft. Smith, granddaughter Tracy Houston and her husband James of Lavaca, three great grandchildren; Sara, Sam, and Hanna Houston, his sister Shirley and her husband Doug Philpot of Lake Havasu, AZ as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tom Sallis, Mike Sallis, Bryce Dalke, Ron Plunkett, Frank Sprick, and David Cagle.

The family will receive guests from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Thursday, July 19th at the funeral home.
