Hogs ranked 10th in preseason poll

The University of Arkansas football team is ranked 10th in the Associated Press preseason poll, which was released Saturday (Aug. 18).

UA’s ranking is the team’s highest in the AP preseason poll since being ranked No. 6 in 1980. Arkansas is ranked in the top 10 of the AP preseason poll for the 11th time in school history and first time since 1989.

The Razorbacks, who were ranked 15th in last season’s AP preseason poll, are ranked in the top 15 of the preseason poll in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1989-90 and sixth time in school history.

The Razorbacks are in the top 10 for the 10th straight AP poll, a streak that stretches back to Oct. 16, 2011, and is the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. Arkansas has been ranked in 33 straight AP polls dating back to the 2010 preseason poll, which is tied for the seventh-longest active streak in the country and ranks as the fifth-longest streak in school history.

The Razorbacks were ranked No. 5 in the final AP poll of the 2011 season after tying a school record with 11 wins, a mark reached only two other times in school history. The team ended the season with a 29-16 defeat of No. 11 Kansas State in the AT&T Cotton Bowl, breaking a single-season school record with its fourth win over a top-15 opponent.

Arkansas is the only team in the SEC to return a quarterback with a 3,000-yard passing season in his career and a running back with a 1,000-yard rushing season as a collegian as Tyler Wilson passed for 3,638 yards in 2011 and Knile Davis rushed for 1,322 yards in 2010.

The Razorbacks also return last season’s team leaders in total offense, all-purpose yards, passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, tackles for loss, quarterback hurries, kickoff returns, scoring, field goals, extra points, punting and kickoffs.
