What Does Christianity Look Like?

Sunday at Freedom Church we talked about what a real Christian looks like. We started of with
Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
This is a great scripture about serving one another; but I wonder, since it is so easy and common to write a check if that is what the Apostle Paul was talking about when he called us to "serve" one another.
Maybe we are seeing so many dissatisfied people in the church because they are attending and not "serving". You see I believe whole heartidly that the satisfaction of Christianity cannot be found on the surface of religion; it is found by going into the heart of Christ and acting with His compassion and His love.
The dirty little secret is we are all selfish people, only pastors cannot get up and preach that or they will loose their congregations. I am no different, I am as selfish as anyone else out there and when I spoke it out on Sunday there was no denying that everyone in our church recognized that yes we all like it "our own way"... and yes we are all selfish; its our human nature. But there is supposed to be a time in our Christian walk that we make some changes and we grow as we learn of God's ways. But  more and more we find Christians are influenced by the world instead of the world being influenced by the church.
Time goes by and God's grace continues to meet our constant sinning and living life as if God is okay with our sins. But we find that Jesus in speaking to the churches in Revelation 2 says this "I gave her time to repent". Yes, God gives grace for a season. He is that great; but sooner or later the season is up and He must allow us to learn the hard way. We see this happen over and over with the Jewish people. They would begin to worship idols and God would allow another nation to overtake them. Israel would then repent and cry out to God for mercy and He would set them free again. Its as if by our sins we walk out from underneath God's protective covering, once outside if that satan can do as he pleases.
I don't think God intends for His people to keep getting beat up by the devil. The devil is defeated and has no power except what we give him! God's will is that we would live an abundant life (John 10:10). But we keep shutting off the blessings because we look like, sound like, and act like the world. So here is the question to all Christians out there; do the people that know you away from your church, know that you are a Christian without you telling them? If not please consider the following five attributes of a Christian;

1) Christians give selflessly- writing a check is good- serving is better 2) Christians love with God’s love- not expecting anything in return 3) Christians care for the broken- ministry is NEVER convenient but is at the core of who we are 4) The greatest witness a Christian has is the way they live their life 5) Christians have contentment- they are not jealous of what others have… they have Jesus and He fulfills them.

So maybe you read this blog entry and thought, wow that was pretty blunt. Maybe its time someone begins to tell us the truth again I don't believe the people of the church are so fragile that they cannot handle truth. God is for us and He wants us to succeed in life more than we can ever know. Along with His blessings comes a certain righteous manner that we are to live by. Now I don't claim to have arrived I am striving to walk this out like the rest of you but the point is we have to make an honest effort to live out our Christianity and that means WWJD not what would the world do.
God Bless,
Pastor Jake
