Prayer- Can Anybody Hear Me?

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this blog. The purpose of this blog is to remind you of God's wonderfulness. If there is anything people need at this time it is to know that God is real and He wants to be intimately involved in our lives. God is not distant God loves us with the love of a good Father who will do everything possible to restore the relationship with His children. Today's Blog is based on today's sermon at Freedom Church; we hope it helps you.   When praying lately I have found myself praying with the attitude that is something like this…. I am praying… speaking the words out and fulfilling my duty …But what does it matter… what is going to happen is going to happen. James 5: 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.  My prayers haven’t sounded much like an effective fervent prayer. Lets look at vs 17 James 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.  Elijah was a man with a nature like ours! Elijah was not super human. Elijah did not walk around under the anointing, he walked around with the same issues we fight. Elijah was very bold under the anointing but was very afraid in the flesh. Still we find that Elijah wasn’t allowed to just sit back and say…. It doesn’t matter God is going to do what He is going to do. God required Elijah to pray it out…  God shut-up the heavens at Elijah’s words! God involved Elijah in what was going on in the earth.  I am submitting to you today that you are that same man… that same woman! Just like Elijah you are going to have to stand up to a world that serves pleasure instead of God… We all know that God exists but we do have an attitude that says the world continues as it always has, everything will continue to go on just like it has been… But when God sends a correction to a nation or to a king things are not  the same and you must be able to hear God's voice for yourself to get His direction. Right after Elijah called on God to send fire from heaven to defeat the prophets of Baal…. Jezebel sent word that she was going to kill him…. Elijah ran for the hills… Against 500 false prophets Elijah could stand… but one mad woman and he split the scene. So God brought him totally away from everyone and everything. God took Elijah to Mt Horeb (Mt Siani) the same mountain range that God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Yes, God took Elijah all the way back to the place that God got alone with Moses; the place where Moses could hear God's voice. In fact Elijah and Moses are the only two people that the bible records that God separated to  this place, to get alone with them. Lets take a quick look at what happened (for the whole scene read the chapter). 1 Kings 19:11 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" So the only way God could get him back to where he could hear Him was to get him away.   God wasn’t in the storms or the earthquakes… He was in the still small voice. Does this sound familiar? Is it that you’ve been having a hard time hearing or focusing on God? Have you felt like, why pray what does it matter? It does matter….  God is still acting today and you want to be acting WITH Him…  Elijah was a great man of God but God still had to separate him from everyone so He could hear Him again… Here is something to think about… One thing that people think is that Revelation reveals what is going to happen in the end times….Revelation is not the only time/place in the bible that things were prophesied….  We view Revelation as the only future event to come because it is the only future event that is prophesied to us. But the Jews had volumes of prophesies…. Many more than what we have. How much more could the men and women of God in those days have said God is going to do what He is going to do, why bother praying about it, why bother seeking God? God has plans that involve you…  We have to be careful not to become complacent.   In other words you cannot go on what you see. God wants us to press on… God does not want us to give up…  He will walk with us when we are down, He will encourage us when we are down or He will carry us when we can't go on but one thing is for sure… He wants to be involved with us. Can anybody hear you? The answer is yes absolutely, the better question is can you hear God? Blessings, Pastor Jake 479 646-FREE (3733)
