$9 Minimum Wage Bad

So President Obama proposed in his State of the Union address to raise the minimum wage to $9. If this passes and becomes law small businesses will reduce both hours and workforce (which many plan to do because of Obamacare, but I'm not going to get into that). Because the cost of doing business will go up we will see a jump in the cost of consumer goods and services. Minimum wages slow the economy, just like tax increases do.

I'll wager

It is staggering to review the minimum wage over time when adjusted for the cost of living. Today, the Huffington Post included a chart that compares the minimum wage to worker productivity. Indeed, had the minimum wage kept pace with production values, it would exceed $21 an hour. Statistics show it takes a minimum of $15 an hour to rise about federal poverty standards. I'll wager you would have no idea as to how to exist on $360 a week before taxes. In fact, I bet you couldn't do it on $720 a week (less than three grand).

The Huffington Post?

Arianna got most of the people who wrote for her to do it free while she jetted around the world and criticized the fact that people sometimes aren't paid enough. They had a fit when she sold out to AOL for a ton of money. Not hardly the place to get advice on jobs that works IMO.

minimum wage

Shiggy, you're funny. So what we need to do is to cut the minimum wage to say $3.00 per hour and the economy will flourish that way corporations like WalMart or McDonalds can make more profits

minimum wage

If a person has minimum skills, minimum education, show minimum motivation, and provides minimum contribution to the workplace, why should a business be forced to pay them more?

MiddleClassHero

You're funny.

minimum standards

If that is the opinion of your workforce, you probably shouldn't hire them in the first place.

Brakes on the economy

What slows the economy is the hoarding of cash offshore and the reinvestment of American profit dollars into foreign economies.
