Why No Study Session?

What is the deal with no Study Session?   Doesn’t the city of Fort Smith have some pressing business to decide?   Why would Lau, Settle, Good and Lorenz vote against a study session?  Do these guys feel they have all the answers?   Isn’t the Aquatic Park or the 900 mass emails sent out by Ray Gosack instructing all city employees on the proper protocol to voice concerns, pressing business or a something to at least study?   Oh well.

study sessions

why have a study session when settle, good lau, and lorenz are all knowing and infallible? we are all aware of how great the city is operating with all that job creation and new business start ups with no city budget issues! NOT

you mean to tell me that you cannot forgive a meeting cancellation? We are talking about directors who: Sacrifice every other Tuesday night, often spending hours to prepare in advance for it; Sacrifice every other Tuesday lunch, often spending hours to prepare in advance for it; Beg for forgiveness from employers when study sessions run overtime, as they often do; Have added additional days to their schedules for Ward meetings; Attend countless weekday evening community events taking time away from their families; Attend countless weekend charity events as city representatives; Use their vacation time to travel to Little Rock or elsewhere when called upon for city business; Greet visiting dignitaries; Attend funerals; Participate in retreats; Sit in on countless task force, commission, chamber and city budget meetings; and, Read countless emails from both frustrated and well-intentioned citizens on both sides of every issue; and, Who knows how many other incidences of giving to this city And despite all of that, you dare to complain about a canceled meeting? I am godsmacked.

Convivial, You May Search Your Own Soul Too!

Yes, I dared to complain about a canceled meeting when there were 3 directors that voted to have that study session. And you should be “godsmacked”, maybe then you could see what is going on! There is no doubt a director does sacrifice many hours away from family to try and make Fort Smith a better place for us all. These 3 directors felt for one reason or another there were pressing issues to warrant a study session, yet they were denied. Why were these 3 directors denied a study session? I ask you to search your own soul and rather than hide behind some silly anonymous name, use your real name if you believe so strongly in what you have to say.

agree with jack

if only one city director needs information then the study session must go forward and we should not play favorites on when and who gets the requested items. yes, they do put in a lot of personal time to serve on the BOD but its a job that they asked to fill. my opinion is that convivial is way out of line on his comment!

of course I'm still waiting on jack

I'm still waiting on Jack to run for the BoD since for many months now it's obvious that he knows much more than all of the BoD put together.

Jack just may be smarter...

than the rest of the Board. At least he did not pass a budget and then 4 months later say he must cut spending.Odds are, one of the "perfect" attendance Directors could not make it and he asked the rest to help him cancel it.

I'm with convivial on this one, the BOD puts in a lot of time, far more than the average citizen realizes. Taking the occasional pass is completely justifiable. PS. our President has even more pressing issues, yet he finds plenty of time for vacations and campaigning. Same goes for Congress... Our BOD should be given recognition for all the time they put in.
