Suffering with mouth sores, a side effect of my medicine Afinitor, is tough. It hurts!
Not being able to talk gives me that to think. I’ve had time to consider this fact: When I was diagnosed with breast cancer metastasis, I felt great no symptoms. Since then thanks to the medicine I have endured these side effects: Weight gain, weight loss, facial breakouts, mouth sores, bloody nose and a few other things I just can’t even mention publicly.
I always heard that cancer won’t kill you but the drugs will. I am beginning to think there is some truth to that saying.
My friends have been full of advice. Here is a list of their help aids in coping with canker sores.
o Rinse with baking soda and water
o Liquid Aloe
o Pyridoxal mouth wash
o MuGard mouth wash
o Whiskey
o Spoon full of honey
o Canker covers
o Magic Swizzle
o Sambazon Acai Juice/Smoothies
o Gogi berry juice
o Wine
o Pepto bismol
o Milk of magnesia
o Peroxide
o Orajel
o Tea tree oil
o Fluocinonide gel
o Sensodyne toothpaste
o Liquid Benadryl with Mylanta
o Yogurt
o Milk with acidophilus
o Magic Mouth Wash
o Kanker+A
o Dexamethasone mouth wash
o Blistex
o Aleve
o Pain Pills
I did not try them all but I found that the last eight items have been my closest companions as I fight to survive five painful mouth sores.
The American Cancer Society’s website www.cancer.org is a wonderful resource when you find yourself with a canker sore - mouth ulcer/sores.
The best thing to do in dealing with anything that gives you pain is to hang tough, pray and do something productive each day. Make each day count no matter what! Tick Tock.
