Only days after clinching at least a share of the Heartland Conference regular-season title, the UAFS volleyball team will take a brief break from league play on Tuesday night Nov 5 when it hosts Missouri Southern State at the Stubblefield Center.
First serve in the nonconference “Battle of the Lady Lions” will be 7 p.m.
UAFS (18-6) will carry a 12-match winning streak into the final match of this current three-match homestand. The Lady Lions are 2-0 during this homestand with four-set wins against conference foes University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian.
The Lady Lions are 14-0 in conference play and have already secured the No. 1 seed and the right to host the conference tournament for the second consecutive season. UAFS is the defending regular-season and conference tournament champion.
It will be the final nonconference match of the season for UAFS, which will finish the regular season with four conference matches at St. Edward’s and McMurry and at home against Texas A&M International and St. Mary’s.
It also will be the fourth meeting in the all-time series between UAFS and Missouri Southern State. UAFS leads the series 3-0.
Missouri Southern State (4-22) has lost nine matches in a row and is coming off a three-set MIAA Conference loss at Northwest Missouri State on Saturday. Missouri Southern State’s wins are against Ouachita Baptist (3-2), Arkansas-Monticello (3-1), Union (3-0) and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (3-2).
