NWA to host Beach Party, Football 101, and Ozarkumentaries

Northwest Arkansas has a busy few weeks in store, as the region hosts the Boys and Girls Club Beach Party, Komen Ozarks' Football 101, Steve Martin at the AMP, and "Ozarkumentaries." It could be a wild and crazy time.

Boys and Girls Club of Benton County Beach Party
The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County will kick-off its 20th annual Mobil 1 Summer Classic Golf Tournament with a Beach Party and Auction on July 31. Hosted at the John Q. Hammons Center, the evening  will include a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, and live music.

The evening will kick-off at 6:30 with the opening of the silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by Boom Kinetic beginning at 9 p.m. The Flipbookers will also perform.

Guests are encouraged to wear beach attire in honor of the theme. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by contacting Jacob Hutson at jhutson@bgcbentoncounty.org. For more information, call 273-7187.

Football 101
Komen Ozark will present a women's-only event, Football 101, on July 31. The evening will focus on the "x's and o's" of college football and give participants a glimpse into what it takes to prepare for game day.

Guests will have the opportunity to  tour the new University of Arkansas football facilities, as well as meet the coaching staff and hear all about Head Coach Bret Bielema’s personal passion to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Football 101 will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Fred W. Smith Football Complex located at 270 North Razorback Road in Fayetteville. Tickets are $100 and include a t-shirt, social hour, goody bag, tour of the facility, and Q & A with the Coach.

All proceeds benefit the Komen Ozark affiliate. For more information, call 750-PINK.

First Friday Concert featuring Foley's Van
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will celebrate the First Friday of August with a special concert performance by Foley's Van on August 1.  The show will include a number of "fast-driving, foot-stomping, and whiskey-sippin' tunes" from a number of musical genres including bluegrass and folk.

The concert will be held at the museum's Twin Bridges from 8 to 10 p.m.  A cash wine and beer bar will be available.

Steve Martin and the Steepp Canyon Rangers
The Arkansas Music Pavilion (AMP) will welcome legendary performer Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell for a special concert on Aug. 3.

The Grammy-award winning collaboration will showcase Martin and the group's unique blend of comedy and bluegrass and feature songs such as the critically-acclaimed “Love Has Come For You."

Gates will open at 6 p.m. with music to follow at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $69 to $89 and are available online. For more information, call the Box Office at 443-5600.

Ozarkumentaries
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, in association with the Seedling Film Association, will present "Ozarkumentaries," a screening of short films made by Arkansas filmmakers about the Ozark region, on Aug. 8.

The outdoor festival will celebrate local films that showcase the region and allow guests the opportunity to learn from the documentary makers. Featured films will included shorts entitled "What makes Fayetteville Special?," "Second Chances," "A Temple of Peace," and several others. Following the film screenings, a  post-discussion with the local filmmakers will be held.

Ozarkumentaries will be held on the Walker Landing at Crystal Bridges, and will begin at 8:30 p.m.
