Born February 12, 1809, and died April 19th, 1882, Charles Darwin left an impact on the world of science that is, unfortunately, still debated to this day.
It may surprise many that Darwin was a student of medicine, theology, and geology. In fact in his early years, he not only attended a Church of England school and studied at Cambridge to become a clergyman, but he also believed in the literal truth of the bible. However, as a result of the Beagle journey, he began to question many of the thoughts and ideas presented as fact, especially in the Old Testament.
If you've never taken the time to study the theory of evolution (oh, and the word "theory" in a scientific context is a mathematical or logical explanation that does not stand in opposition to the word "fact"), take a little time to read up on it and then form your own conclusions.
A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge. - Carl Sagan
