Galaxy is Twice as Thick at the Middle than Previously Thought

So some Aussies using standard data found on the Internet figured out that the Milky Way galaxy is twice as thick as previously thought.  Reactions from the science community range from "now everything is wrecked" to "Now everything fits together".

Imagine this happening with a discovery in the religous world, say for example, that Jesus had children, would be received.  Instead of analyzing and independently verifying the findings, it would likely be considered heresy or worse, and the messenger would be figuratively or literally burned at the stake.

Just a thought to consider.
