As the initiative to revitilize the historic district in Van Buren has seen a major upswing in recent years, there has been a new effort to bring more arts in the district as well.
Everyone it seems, enjoys live music. I'm happy to announce that there have been plans drawn up for a new pavillion within the historic district, at the park in the '700', or '800' block. Here's what's cool about this spot:
IT'S AVAILABLE NOW! (pavillion to be built soon)
electricity provided-
any genre' of music is welcome-
restaurants close by-
public restrooms available-
Perfect spot for fundraisers??? possibly!!
Remember, there are trains offloading hundreds of folks every weekend to stroll through the district. If these crowds aren't w/in your demographic, then bring your own!
We only need more bands.
Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman is positive about the city’s future, but will, in the national economic slowdown, be cautious with any new expenditure for equipment or staff.

just out of curiosity, are
just out of curiosity, are you the guy who works at musician's exchange?
i'd love to do something like this some time. i've been invited to play a couple of coffee shops, but it's nothing i feel prepared to even attempt. the guy i used to write music with lives in fayetteville now, so we don't get to rehearse any material.
i'm really more interested in street performance, anyway, but if i were to find bands who actually felt willing and able (yes, this was a sadly intentional choice of words) to play in the pavillion how would they go about reserving the area? is it just whoever is set up first gets to play, any time of the day?
Nah- I'm not from Musician's Echange- great guys, though!
Barb Little is the President of the Old Town Merchant's Association. She would probably be the best person to contact at this point, 474-5155. (She's got a cool shop downtown too-A Little Bit of Mexico)
If you're just wanting to sit downtown and rock out a few tunes- go for it. No one's going to stop that! That's what we want!! I remember just a few months ago strolling through Eureka Springs, and there were a few guys sitting on the sidewalk just playing for the fun of it... I thought it'd be GREAT if it happened here too- so I started really pushing for it. Came to find out that I'm not alone.
If you let me know when you'll be there, I'll join you, or just kick back and watch!
Thanks for the reply!
