Five former University of Arkansas at Fort Smith student-athletes were inducted into the Lions Athletics Hall of Fame during the third annual honorary banquet Friday (Feb. 3) at the old UAFS Fieldhouse.
Five former Razorbacks and the entire 1994 University of Arkansas 1994 NCAA men’s basketball championship team were inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame on Friday night at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.
ROGERS — With so much focus on rankings, the University of Arkansas Athletic Department highlighted some other important numbers for its student athletes — grade point averages and hours of community service.
By all accounts, the Arkansas football program is off to a great start to 2012 with an eventful January that was highlighted by the announcement of new coaches, players returning for their senior seasons and a much-needed 11th win acquired on Jan. 7.
Many argue that the Bowl Championship Series rankings did just what it was intended to do by pitting the two best teams in America together in the BCS Championship Game on Jan. 9. I won’t argue with them because they’re entitled to their opinions, just as I am entitled to my own.
Of the six state champions, three hailed from western Arkansas with two — Charleston and Greenwood—representing the Fort Smith region directly. However, the area had a lot more to be proud of than just these two teams.
